about

Intakt CD 221

The Ingrid Laubrock Octet grew out of Laubrock's London based nine piece ensemble "Nein". The new line-up includes some outstanding soloists and reflects her musical environment in London and New York. In 2011 the saxophonist and composer was offered the opportunity by Southwest German Radio (SWR) to work with her octet for several days at the 'SWRJazz Meeting' in Baden-Baden, to develop a repertoire and present it on tour. The following concert at the 'Rote Fabrik' in Zürich was then recorded by the public broadcaster. In the liner notes critic and producer Reinhard Kager wrote about the debut: «This is exactly what constitutes the strength of Ingrid Laubrock's music: it is not easily pigeonholed and it takes its impulses from the most diverse genres. And this kind of refreshing versatility is exactly what counts in today's improvised music!»
